What to compare in pet insurance
Pet insurance policies cover different costs. Compare these points in every proposal.
Veterinary expenses
Check whether the policy pays for consultations, treatment, surgery and hospital care caused by illness or accident, the reimbursement rate and the annual limit.
Third party liability
This covers damage your pet causes to other people or their property. If you already have home insurance, check whether your multi-risk home policy includes this protection so you do not pay twice for the same cover.
Age and breed
Many insurers apply a maximum entry age and specific conditions for certain breeds. Also check until what age cover can continue.
Waiting periods, excesses and exclusions
Some benefits only begin after a waiting period, and pre-existing conditions are commonly excluded. Check how much you pay towards each treatment.
